What the check measures, and when it gets tight.
The four areas measure different things, and only one of them has generally accepted thresholds. Here is what gets measured and how to read the result.
SEO is mostly craft, not opinion
Whether a page has a title, whether that title appears once and not three times, whether there is exactly one H1, whether images carry alt text, whether a canonical address is set and whether structured data is valid at all: that can be looked up, not debated. These checks either pass or they do not.
Performance is the only area with fixed limits
The three values in the table are the only ones in the whole check with a generally accepted limit. Everything else is interpretation. That is why we show the number and the threshold next to it, instead of a score out of ten.
Security checks the obvious
Does the site run over HTTPS, is the certificate valid, does the server set the usual protective headers, does it needlessly reveal its version. These are not penetration tests, they are the things every visitor and every bot sees anyway.
Technology decides whether the rest arrives at all
A page that does not fit a phone screen, whose images ship as uncompressed JPEG or whose addresses run through three redirects loses visitors before the first sentence is read.
The three values Google publishes itself
Google calls them Core Web Vitals and sets the thresholds publicly. They apply to the 75th percentile of real page views, not to a lab value.
| LCPLargest Contentful Paint | How long it takes for the largest visible element to load, usually the hero image or the headline. | up to 2.5 seconds | over 4.0 seconds |
|---|---|---|---|
| CLSCumulative Layout Shift | How much the content jumps while loading. Anyone who has aimed at a button and missed knows the feeling. | up to 0.1 | over 0.25 |
| INPInteraction to Next Paint | How long the page takes to respond visibly to a click or an input. | up to 200 milliseconds | over 500 milliseconds |
Thresholds according to web.dev, Google, section «Core Web Vitals», retrieved 15 September 2026. Between «good» and «poor» lies the «needs improvement» range.
You can look up most of this yourself: right-click, «View page source», and search for «<title>» and «<h1». For the three values above there is Google PageSpeed Insights, free and without a login. Our check does the collecting for you and writes down what the finding means.
